Farm Trail

Why not come for the day and visit our farm trail, part of the Soil Associations network of Organic Open Farms.

Landscape and wildlife

Natural Beauty
Rhug sits in an idyllic part of north Wales between the Dee and Alwen rivers with the spectacular backdrop of the Berwyn Mountains. The estate parkland and fertile pastures are rich in clovers and herbs, providing a healthy, stress-free environment. Rhug Farm totals 1050 hectares (ha) including 90 ha of broadleaved woodland plus 551 ha of mountain land, making it one of the largest organic farms in Wales.  The farm's network of hedges and traditional stone boundaries run down to meandering rivers and streams including Alwen and Dee.

These notable features in the landscape are havens for wildlife. Since conversion to organic production, Rhug has witnessed an explosion of wildlife across the farm. Visitors can see otters along the river banks and buzzards soaring overhead – both are at the top of the food chain and indicate a robust food chain supporting them. Visitors are welcome to walk the farm. Groups are welcome by arrangement and a number of special open days are held through the year.

The self-guided Rhug farm trail is open all year round and takes about 90 minutes. The walk is based on the lowland of the farm starting from the farm shop situated on the A5. The trail gives insight into some of the consideration of organic farming and its impact on the wildlife and the environment.

The trail is free of charge and maps can be collected from the farm shop.
